Dear comrades,
It seems there are 2 kinds of subdued M35 rank insignia, this is the version from front of Russia http://www.frontofrussia.com/other/96e.jpg according to Alex this are the standard field versions,
they look very similar to these http://www.tridentmilitary.com/new-photos15/srb19b.jpg according to Trident these are only used by borderguards, the Trident versions look brighter but that can also just be the kind of lighting.
There is also this version SRBI3 on page http://www.tridentmilitary.com/Soviet-WW2/soviet-ww2-insignia.html. I am inclined to think that this is the correct version, but I am not sure.
Can somebody help me out?
Best regards, Guido

All the originals of subdued insignia I've seen are pieces with the coloured enamel removed and painted. You can easily remove the repro enamel ones by heating and the enamel will just chip out. Therefore the trident borderguards are the colured 35 branch of service ones which are incorrect, and both Trident and front of russia ones are incorrect as they have been enameled. So just get any set chip out the enamel and paint. Just as a follow up, I have been told that, on the order coming out to subdued insignia that some coloured insignia was just painted over.

They've just taken the photo closer up! The size is standardised

No, the subdued triangles from trident are actually bigger than the coloured versions, I have several pairs of both.

Thats strange I've seen variations with 1mm difference, but not significant, the only other variation is inthe material and shape of the prongs, scew back versions There are also variations in the depth of the stampings, However I'm not aware of major size variations. Sorry can't be of further help

It's not a huge difference, a few mm, you've seen variations in size so it's probably ok, thanks for your replies comrade:-)
Best regards, Guido
