belvoir event

Postby grigoriev on Wed Apr 25, 2007 2:17 am

hi comrades , at belvoir this year i will be running a saftey course on the moisin nagant rifle / carbine . 8)
this will include safe use of the weapon , cleaning , fault finding , and your old fav ........... field stripping the weapon

there will also be training on other weapons in the near future such as the ppsh41 , pps43 , svt , maxim (if we have one handy ), and mp40 all of which we can hire from various hire/fire companies.

all this will go towards a weapons saftey card to show you are trained to use these types of firearm in the presence of the public or fellow reenactors.
and dont think you will get out of this because of your age or sex , i will be there to show you youngsters the ropes as well.

i hope you will enjoy this

cheers , grigoriev .

Good ideas all, Colin. I will be reprising my plasch + greatcoat folding lessons from Nelson, and I think the boss will be drilling people too.

Good idea comrade Colin

Do other groups run a similar training scheme or are we leading the way once again?

don't forget to bring plenty of oil/WD40 to keep the Belvoir rain off your weapon.(ooh er missus).

I think SBG do a similar thing. But no Allied groups do that I am aware of.

Cheers, Ade.

Other groups seem to have dedicated training weekends (no MOPS) which seems to defeat the object to me. With our method, the public gets to see something and we learn stuff. Everyone wins.

Assistance

Postby Comrade Coffin on Wed Apr 25, 2007 3:05 pm

There are a lot of people to get through- do you want a hand with the nagant training? We'll need to maintain a register of who's trained to do what as well, I guess.
“Freedom” is a grand word, but under the banner of freedom for industry the most predatory wars were waged, under the banner of freedom of labour, the working people were robbed.

hi comrade coffin , thanks for the offer .
i will try and do this in groups of six , or at a number set by adrian .

a list will be made to show who has done the training so at the following events those who have not will be brought up to speed .

it would be nice to get everyone at the same time , but that will not be possible .
a training weekend might be an idea , some where everyone could get to.
weapons training , drill , and tactics , and a social get together in the evening .

i dont mind helping out with the maxim, how much detail are you planning on going into with the weapons like just use in a battle or properly stripping down?

hi andrei , thanks for the offer .
if and when we get a maxim it will be a total strip down & clean , the same with all the fac weapons we own or hire .

the idea is everyone knows as much as possible about these weapons and how they work , so if asked to use one fom a hire/fire company or need to use a different weapon than they are use to , they can say they have been trained on the saftey and use of that type of weapon .

i hope this will work out well for the unit .

This show was a good training weekend for us last year.
Thanks to the miserable weather we got hardly any public visiting us all weekend.

This allowed us the time for the various training sessions that we did.
tactics,drill etc.
So we all learnt something and the organiser got an extra display he wasn't expecting.

So if we get the same weather again we can make use of the quiet time after the display for training ourselves.
If the weather is good and we get a good turnout of MOPs then we can still train and the MOPs get to see that as well as the arena display.

its a win win all round.

I think last year was a good example of the high morale in the unit because we turned a miserable event into something productive that we all enjoyed.Which payed off when we won best display.

I for one am looking forward to this years event rain, mud and all.

Yeah, should be loads of good training going on this year too. Looks like we are going to be busy with the plasch lessons, weapons handling, bit of bayonet training/practice for those who are doing it in the arena, hopefully even a brief once over of the 'range procedure' for the assault course. Sounds like being a good crack.

I too am really looking forwards to the event. Should be another good one.

I have spoken to Ian Durrant ( you will recall Ian is the Military section steward for the event who we booked in with) and we will have access to the off road vehicle arena again. This will now come with it's own PA system so we may use this if we wish.

Cheers, Ade.

1st Guards Rifle Regiment - 2nd Guards Rifle Division

At last our own forum, it just goes to show how the 2nd Guards has progressed. Well done and many thanks to Ade for setting this up.

Ade as 2 I/C will be organising the event training display, all details to go to him first. It's the chain of command!

As I said, details have gone to the 2 I/C first.
