Wow! just watched this fillum, the nearest thing I've seen to a straight adventure yarn from earlier Soviet cinema.
THRILL as you see the White Guards flee before mighty Chapayev and his ferocious moustache! GASP as Anka, a mere woman, tames the mighty maxim gun! MELT as love blooms for Petya and Anka during weapons training! LAUGH at commisar Furmanov'stouching attempts to hold a political discourse with The Boss and WEEP for Petrovich, mighty hearted, proud cossack humbled beneath the yolk of aristocratic patronage.
It's got it all, if you can get a copy WATCH IT TODAY!!!!!!!!

After seeing the fillum I had to buy the book, got a 1942 copy from some place up North. Reading it now simultaneously with Gogols' 'Taras Bulba'.

I can also recommend this film after watching it at Huw's last weekend.
Cheers, Ade.

I have a friend who bought a copy of this film from an American dealer. It cost him £870 dollars plus postage and when it arrived it turned out to be a photocopy of someones arse with the words 'Chapayev Film Good' written in magic marker across the cheeks. It just goes to show you have to be careful when buying anything off the internet espacially from Ostfront who think nothing of chargeing £35 quid for a misleadingly described shitty photocopy of a Russian medical manual. That's Ostfront, spelled O-S-T-F-R-O-N-T.
I have never bought a photocopied DVD from them but they ARE American, which you have to admit is rather suspicious.
