Hi Kai, it would be nice if you could make it. :)

The event is going to be very much the same as last year, only bigger and better! We will hopefully top the 50 mark for Soviet re-enactors. We have an Eastern Front battle on each of the three days in the morning. Speaking to Gary Howard yesterday at Peak Rail he is seriously considering making the Ostfront battle the main event in the afternoon next year.

Cheers, Ade.

Something special for Saturday night?

Postby Comrade Coffin on Tue Aug 07, 2007 9:10 am

Perhaps as we have so many Russian freinds over we ought to lay on something special for the Saturday night. Any suggestions? As a start I could bring along a couple of barrels of Ringwood s 'Old Thumper' if the unit will pay for it.

Ringwoods Old Thumper! Now you are talking mans beer there Nick.I have many fond memories of that fine brew.I can think of nowt better than a jug or two of that at Detling,it will beat the Vodkat at Peak Rail, but then contaminated swamp water would have had the edge over Vodkat.[/quote]

Other things?

What about some music, live or otherwise? Does anyone know if the Russians are bringing any musicians along? Could anyone who is able bring something along to contribute to 'The Best Campfire Social In the World'?- It could be food, drink, a song-and-dance-act- please give it some though everyone.

I think that's a great idea, doubly so now that there's no beer tent at Detling this year. (There will still be overpriced beer available in what was the dance hall last year).
Penny-pinching here and there will ruin any event. It would be a pity to see Detling nickel-and-dimed into mediocrity.
Sorry to bring the mood down, comrades. This is my favourite event as well.

Da, I'm all keyed up for Detling too. Shame about the beer tent though!! I'll just have to make more room in me Ural outfit for more beer. Sorry lads it'll be southern brew but I'll pick a good'un! Oh and some vodka too!
Let's just hope we get our passes in time!

I will be at Detling - although most of my time will be spent with the Polish group who are coming over to take part. I intend to make time to come and help out in the battles though, and will pop over whenever I get the chance - but don't forget that you can always come and find us too!

Reminder to all that anyone needing a weapon and has not arranged one yet, needs to contact John O to reserve one. It will be impossible on the day to arrange something

Blackboard.

Postby Comrade Coffin on Mon Aug 13, 2007 2:08 pm

Do we have a small balckboard that can be brought to Detling, or do I need to find one myself? I am going to do a short training lecture for the recruits & interested members of the public. Mark Evans is also looking into doing a lecture or two, and I was hoping that Colin could follw up my lecture (which is about the development of the Mauser action rifle & center-fire cartridge sytem, its operation & ballistics- both internal, external & terminal) with some combat weapons training? PM sent Colin. PM sent to Ade about the idea as well.

We should have a unit one, but if you can make one yourself that would ensure there is no problems.

Idea sounds good.

Cheers, Ade.

Passes: If you did not get your vehicle pass and wristband from Ray at Kelmarsh Hall you need to move fast and contact him to ensure these are posted to you in time for the event. No passes, no entry!
