This should prove to be a good event. It is a new one for the unit. The museum is managed by Christine, the lady who was formerly at the Muckleburgh Collection. Those of you who attended the old Muckleburgh event in June 2004 will recall the kind hospitality extended to all re-enactors and exhibitors in the form of a free BBQ. This is hoped to be repeated. The collection there is owned by Sean, another good friend of the unit, who kindly loaned us the use of the ZIS 3 76mm A/T gun at Detling last year.

Cheers, Ade.

This could be a really good event , do you think Christine would let us dig in ? :D

We haven't dug a decent trench system since the Muckleburgh event .

Any chance of asking her ?

Hi Colin, not having been to the Museum I have no idea on this one? We can certainly ask.

Sean was at Belvoir Castle last year with the British Armour display, if he is there again in a few weeks we can also have a word with him.

Cheers, Ade.

1st Guards Rifle regiment - 2nd Guards Rifle Division

Pending what Christine (Museum Manager) allows us we have a choice of statics:

1. With a T34;
2. With an artillery piece;
3. Digging in, but this depends on the lay out of the site as well as
permission to dig bloody big holes in their turf!

I will speak with Christine.

If we ask him nicely Comrade Coffin might bring along some bags of black powder and blow us some trenches out of the ground.
That would save time digging and leave more time for pre show socialising.

Hi comrades. Myself and Phil attended last year as the museum kindley lent us the zis AT gun and we felt a token presence would be appreciated (It clashed with another guards event).
Digging in is no problem and the sbg who were also present were happy to dig in a position. The soil is very sandy and so easy to dig. The museum staff are very helpful and will drag around any heavy pieces and put them into positions. A BBQ was arranged for Saturday evening and a good time was had by all. A low key event as far as the public were concerned, but an excellent venue and well worth forging links with this interesting and friendly museum

1st Guards Rifle Regiment - 2nd Guards Rifle Division

Well a trench static would be better so I want to know who and how many unit members will be there on the Friday to dig this trench? I will be there for one!
If we can use one of the artillery pieces then we could dig it in position.

Well, I'm up for the bring-a-shovel party. Perhaps a few ground charges could make the digging quicker?
“Freedom” is a grand word, but under the banner of freedom for industry the most predatory wars were waged, under the banner of freedom of labour, the working people were robbed.
