Been up to Chesterfield again today. I now have the first two set of body armour in hand. One regular and one large size.

Hopefully, if the rain keeps off, I will get these sprayed up this weekend and start cutting out the patterns for the throat/chest pad and the padding for between each plate. Then start sorting out the straps. This is a lot of work guys.

Roger is going to attempt to get the rest of the metalwork done for the Tuesday before Detling. This means another journey to Chesterfield (1 hour each way). I will try and get them sprayed and do unit shopping before I leave for Kent on Thursday.

So you might have them in basic format, minus pads, but with basic straps. They would be usuable for the battle. You guys can sit at Detling and do some stitching. Bring heavy needles and thread that will pass through a Mosin Nagant web sling.

Roger has been paid the deposits you all sent.

Roger is going all out to help us, and has stopped work on other projects to try meet what is a very tight deadline.

Cheers, Ade.

Thank you Comrade!

The weather was no good for spray painting at the weekend

However, despite getting home late from work this afternoon, I managed to get the front of each plate (on the two sets) done twice. If I say it myself they look great! Just did it right as the heavens opened tonight.

Cheers, Ade.

That is seriously well sprayed Ade; a real professional job and not a fleck or a spot in sight ! 8)

Nobody will want to get them scratched !!

Once the leather-work is in place they are going to be real works of art.

Its going to be a case of lots of voices saying "Raay? .... can I wear my armour on parade?"!!

Comrades, It is Armour, it will be scratched an dinged by inferior Gitlerite projectiles and shell fragments, but Soviet Steel will not fail us...

I look forward to dinging and muddying mine up...

Thanks Guys!

Tonight I manage to dodge the rain just long enough to get one coat of paint on the reverse sides of both sets of armour.

Cheers, Ade.

Hi Andy, I won't have a final bill until I see Roger on Tuesday. I will want the money at Detling in cash please.

We have spent the whole day today working on the project. My Mum and Lez have spent the afternoon cutting out the throat/chest pads and machining them up for all 6 sets of armour. The canvas used is original wartime material. I have also fitted the main straps and rivitted the canvas pad to the lower armour plate on mine.

Making patterns etc is time consuming.

Here are a few shots of my set. The canvas is actually evenly sized, it is just I am not holding it level

So just to reiterate, (weather permitting, if it rains, forget it) at Detling you will get all the armour ready painted; all straps, d rings, lanyard clips, and canvas. You will then have to assemble all this together by sewing the straps on, sewing up the bottom of the chest pad (once secured in place by rivitting first then and stuffing it) All this can easily be done in the field.

I want you all to know that I am not making a penny out of this deal. My initial outlay expence of buying the original to copy from, I am standing, as it is an addition to my collection. What I will ask is that my petrol costs be covered, as I will have done 400 miles in trips to Roger's. Mine and Lez's time doing all the planning, sourcing materials, painting, sewing, donating the wartime canvas, etc, we are not charging for. Just buy us both a few drinks. 8) Hints to Ray about a Valiant Labour Medal would not go amiss. :D Hope that sounds fair to you all? I cannot deliver them all done and ready to wear. We have to make up menus and do the unit shopping this week too.

Cheers, Ade.

That armour looks brilliant Ade.
You've done the unit proud with your efforts on this project .
I hope all the comrades who are getting a set will be suitably thankful and appreciative of your efforts.

With all your work, effort and personal outlay on this scale it should be more than just a few drinks at Detling.

A valiant labour medal for you both should be in order too.(more bling for Les).

Thanks Guys!

Today I have fitted the d rings and leather straps. I utilised the ends from the rifle slings for these. Also rivetted on the throat/chest padding. This is a bit awkward to do due to the curve of the lip around the top of the armour. Also getting this in position is a pain. Managed to cheat using impact adhesive to avoid sewing up the padding

Once the layard clips come, my set will be done.

I have found that the Mosin Nagant slings can actually be cut down a bit. I had left them full length. But even fully tightened up they were still a bit long, so these had to come off and be refitted.

So today has been a learning curve.

Tomorrow Lez is going to machine up the rest of the pads for the lower armour plates.

Cheers, Ade.

Moscow Centre's requires a suitable location in your Rezidencies City for the Installation of the Statue of you Working at the Forge, hand beating out the Steel and Comrade Lez working tirelessly at the Sewing Machine producing Straps..

It will require Twenty Square Metres and no Height obstructions up to Five Metres...
