Even though the lanyard clips have not arrived yet, I could not resist rigging up the armour temporarly with a couple of straps.

You might recognise the poses from a couple of well known original pics :D

Comrade Viktor, please have my statue based upon the first pic

You will see the two pics show the lower armour plate in the two different postions it can be worn.

Cheers, Ade.

Wow!

Ade (and Lez!) you have done a truly superb job on this! I honestly cannot wait to see a wave of assault engineers blow some fascists to kingdom come!

I think that would make a superb piece of battle sequence for an event and something the public will have never seen before!

An interesting question - is the repro one roughly the same weight as the original? And, how does it feel to wear it? Is it heavy and ungainly?

I can't wait to see it at Detling! Will be round for a look Friday afternoon 8)

Hi Walter, I had my pilotka surgically removed

Glad you like the armour.

Hi Andy, I have had the armour made from 1.6mm steel as opposed to what we think was 1.8mm on the original. This was in order to save a little in weight, but mainly to help keep the costs down. Of course, ours is not true armour plate but is mild steel. Weight wise it feels really quite light to wear. It needs to be straped up fairly tight to keep it in place. Overall the design is good. You can easily shoulder a weapon while wearing it, so some though went into the design of the shape of the neck. Kneeling and bending down, even with the lower plate in the low slung postition, is no problem. What I did find is the throat / chest padding does make it a bit warm to wear.

Cheers, Ade.

Interesting!

It can't be as bad as my VERY heavy Afghanistan era armour - in its nice nylon cover... lovely to wear when its hot!

Mind you, that will stop a rifle bullet from the front 8)

Hi Guys, I have worked very hard this past two days to get your armour ready for Detling. The weather here has been lousy with light rain on and off. But by running in and out of the house between showers I have managed to get the armour sprayed up on both sides with 3 coats of paint. I have also fitted the lower pads on each set as well as the suspension straps which hold the two peices together.

All you now have to do is:

Afix the harness straps and leather D ring tabs. These can be glued for a quick fix.

Stuff and fit the chest / throat pad. I am hoping the split rivetts arrive in the morning as I was let down by the supplier today. The pad can be closed by glue again.

Cheers, Ade.

Thanks for the image.

This one is the simplified pattern. You can id it from the front in period pics due only 4 rivets being present. I think I mentioned it somewhere in this thread?

Cheers, Ade.

Thanks Comarade! Very interesting stuff. This is the first one to be seen with what appear to be original straps etc intact.

I think the "waist strap" may simply be his normal belt.

Cheers, Ade.

Are there any plans for a second run of armour? I'm still interested in getting hold of some to finish off my engineers kit.

If not, is there a contact to commission some myself?
