Hi Tank, things are starting to progress with the body armour project. I have been in contact with the armourer in Chesterfield who is willing to take on the project for us. I am going up to see him next week taking with me my original set so he can see what is involved.

We are hopefully having the SN42 pattern made.

I do not have any estimates of cost as yet. I have told him we just need the metalwork making and that we would finish them off with canvas, straps and paint.

I would be grateful if any still interested parties could register their interest in this thread please. So if you think you would like to purchase a set of plates, add your name here.

Cheers, Ade.

Hi Guys, here is the latest news on this project.

Today I went up to Chesterfield to have a meeting with Roger, the armourer, who is going to undertake this project for us. He is a great guy with an obvious passion for the subject.

He says he will be able to reproduce the SN42. He is going to initially make one set, being an exact size copy of my original, which will fit me.

After production of the first prototype he would be prepared to produce more in a choice of two sizes, a regular as per mine and a larger size to fit himself as he is bigger than me. (Tank and Rob: he is more your build) Steel used will be as per originals.

We have still to finalise a price. He will know better once he has made one set, which is fair enough. I would advise you to budget at least £200. I have not committed to any further orders as yet.

Now, if you wish to order I am going to need a firm financial commitment in the form of a non returnable deposit of £100. This in case YOU change your mind. Roger has lost money before on special orders and I do not want to be messed around and nor does he. But I am sure none of the Comrades here would do that. No money needed yet so you have time to start saving.

With the show season looming, orders are flooding in for him. I told him that we would not expect a delivery before August. This would tie in nicely for 2nd Guards and Detling.

He is really keen about ths project and is prepaired to help with the strap work and padding. He can help source materials and has offered use of his workshop facilites to see the items completed. Roger has asked if he can add a small armourers mark to the plates. I have agreed to this. I would not wish them to get passed on as "real" somewhere down the line in the distant future.

This is a special item that I cannot ever forsee being made commercially available elsewhere? Originals are not usable being too rare and expensive to use, so this is the only option. So have a think and get back to me if you want your name added to the list.

I also took my SN38 sets to show him. He wants to have a go at doing these too!

Cheers, Ade.

Comrades,
For this Project to Conform to the Norms, we will need good Images of the Strapping conforming to the Mosin Nagant sling Webbing and buckles also of the padding around the neck area, can everyone search for and post this Information?, some of the images of our Russian Comrades throwing back the Gitlerite Hordes at the St Petersburg Front have these details... Comrades when we do this Project there will not be an unused MN Sling this side of Kiev not part of these Armour Complexes.

Comrades, This is our Historic Mission!!..... :D

So is the 200 inferior capitalist pound notes the price just for the plates themselves? The strapping and padding is extra on top?

Is the metalwork coming primed and painted the correct green or is that extra too?

I would love a set but need to be clear about what is and isn't included...

Oh and if not right now, will he be able to make them again - say over the 2008 winter period?

Anyway, thanks for getting this this far Ade... I can't wait to see someone wearing this stuff at a gig - will look really neat!

Hi Guys, thanks for the replies :)

I was just a bit worried that interest might have dissappeared.

No money is need as yet, so you still have time to save up some cash.

I have harvested every image I can of the armour and straps via the 'net and my Russian comrades, but I would certainly welcome more input on this.

At present the figure of £200 is an estimate. Roger has a good idea of the cost of the steel plates, but until he has actually made one the estimate of his time and profit margin is a "best guess". Once he has made my prototype he will know for sure.

I can spray paint the armour in red oxide primer and finish in the correct shade of green as I have a compressor. I won't charge for this other than the cost of the paints. The canvas and straps should not cost too much. If you can buy some 91/30 slings cheap, that would be good and help cut down final finished costs. Tony Budge has slings at £10 each, I would guess three would be needed per set of armour?

I cannot speak for Roger as to weither he would make more at a later date?

Cheers, Ade.

That is reproduction no?

Looks very repro to me!

Still, gives a good idea of how it could be made to work.

Do we know where we can get the pads from and are we going to get them all done at the same place or just sort them ourselves?
