Aha, I wondered what it was . I wonder if the cyclic rate stayed the same with 9mm?

I have always been impressed by that 950 rnds a minute!!

By the way, since it comes under "events " can I please wish all the members of the unit and our sister (brother?) units a very pleasant holiday and the very best of health and happiness in the coming year?

I have met some great people this year and fully expect it to keep going the same way.

All the best to all

The rate of fire of the PPSh-41 was impessive but carrying and refilling the magazine was heavy and time consuming, especially under battle conditions, and that's where the MP40 had a small advantage hense why the curved mag was introduced, though only holding 35 rnds, 3 more than the 32 loaded MP40 mag.
I would like to add that I read that experinced German troops usualy only loaded 26 rounds due to jamming.

I remember the game we played at Colchester with the race to fill drum mags (and barry sat on my lid!).
It was a sobering thought to think how it would have been with cold fingers and an icy wind.
I the stick mags are a lot simpler to load and stow in your kit.

I suppose they could begin an attack with drum mags to allow the advantage of lots of firepower then change to sticks when they got in close;but I don`t expect they mucked about like that?

PPSh-41 It's the same old story throughout military history and what the troops learn on the training ground and through propaganda is quite different from what the troops learn in actual combat.

That's why it's a good idea for everyone to take part in one of our private battles to experience a snapshot of combat albeit using blanks and using your Soviet equipment to its full effect.

BTW for authenticity's sake, the stick mag wasn't developed for the PPSh-41 until 1942... which probably suggests it might not have seen action until maybe '43....

So for those early war scenarios, loose the stick mags (as much as I love them!)

If we could convince a very handsom and generous mladhsi serjant to bring his field telephones to fort nelson we could set up a little headquarters in the forge with maps and things like that and we can even tell the people in the trench when their dinners ready.

The phones are a good idea but unfortunatly the trench system is too far from the cooks position for the cables to reach.
The NCO's will organise 'runners' to pass messages on. We will have to have a rotation system in place so that we can we can man both static positions.

I would like to be a Tank Rider if there is space but I expect there are a lot of people who have waited a long time for this chance in which case I will happily remain on the ground and wideo or take pictures.

Bob it's your it's you Kapitan who decides who rides on the tank as one of the unit's H&S officers and a first Aiders. If your fit enough to climb the tank and jump off at a slow speed then you may be included as one of the tank riders!

As unit secretary one of my resonsibilities is to organise public liability insurance for the 2nd Guards therefore I am aware or the limitations of our insurance and tank riding is not one the inclusions on our policy so you ride on the T34 at your own peril !

I will make this clear to everyone before they stepfoot on the tank so that everyone is clear as to their position, training will be obligatory for everyone chosen to tank ride.

We must be professonal in observing our legal duties and health and safety obligations.

I started the T34 up last weekend, cant wait to go in to battle with all of you.
I have been trying to clean the rock hard mud out of the wheels from Beltring last year. Dont want a lump of that hitting any one running behind as we go in to battle.

Hope those running behind have got good lungs, and can hold there breath, because she's burning the 2 liters of oil per hour of running just like she should !

See you all soon. (As long as the show organiser contacts me to sort out the transport)
