I had an idea for a scenario for fort nelson today well it was more of a stole it form anothergroup that starts with la and ends with columna. How about doing a field armoury I think the fore would make a good back drop for it?
let me know what you think.
Cheers andy

Sounds interesting Andrei Valtarovich; we certainly have enough different weapon types in the unit.
What sort of layout do the La people use, and will you change it ?
[The doorbell went just now while I was writing this and it was our Postman,Keith.
He brings round (in the evening) things that need a signature and it was a delivery of a snow suit and a trio of Mauser ammo pouches].
I ordered a leather sling from Richard Underwood this evening, and a bayonet last night from ebay: but the bayonet has a leather scabbard with metal neck and end,so I expect it`s not German, any ideas?
I bought it just to have something to go on the end of the Mauser !
I like the field armoury idea, good luck with it.

in la columna digger (the armourer, ie oldest member) just chuck a load of tools, vices and drills etc on a table surrounded by ammo boxes, grenades and stacked guns and over the day strips and cleans a few-the public love it, on the saturday at detling he began painting his vickers mount and it attracted a bit of an audience!

I have access to a range of old tooling- provided I have enough notice of what is required. We may also want to set up a sighting-in range in one of the emplacements with a shooter & a spotter testing guns.

It always seems to have gone down well with the public when we come off the battlefield and sit round cleaning guns too - and Colin used to love testing people on stripping Mosin Nagants, so this is something that should always be done! It is also a good habit to get into for those of us who own live-firing MN's to clean them immediatly after battles, and, if the battles are earlier in the day, then it means that there is something going on after we have finished the battle!

Its also strangly theraputic I find,so 2 days of stripping and cleaning will be like a week at a black sea health farm, just the bilet !

Just stumbled across this whilst waiting for the bathrom to be delivered (by ceasarian I expect !!).....
"The Russian Empire bought significant number of Lewis Guns in British .303 or Russian 7.62x54R calibre and used it as squad automatic weapon for infantry units, or as GPMG for cavalry, cossack, or dragoon units.
These guns were replaced by the Degtyarev light machine gun from the late 1920s.
The Lewis had reputation of being a somewhat cumbersome, but fairly reliable weapon (no small feat, considering the relaxed attitude toward weapon-cleaning among peasant conscripts).
Some Lewis Guns were briefly re-issued in Autumn 1941 to make up for losses of equipment to the advancing Germans. They were withdrawn from service in 1942-1943, as more DPs became available."

Re. the Lewis guns......stick to your DP's........
A real Lewis gun will set you back a cool £1500 or thereabouts unless of course you have something on the seller.....so with all the kit, spares and extra mags you could be looking at nearly two grand......You could buy a nice 25 year old girl called Natasha for that in the Pskov human trafficing market (every second Thursday in the month)
