Welcome to the Forum & the Second Guards Jamie. We shall do our best to ensure that you enjoy your time in the unit.

Either that or we'll hand you over to the NKVD.

Welcome. What are you planning your first event to be? If your short on kit I'm sure we can sort you out stuff.

I'm planning on coming to the Fort Nelson event. However, at the moment I only have a Soviet Russian winter hat so I definately need to stock up on uniforms, insignias etc.

What are the prices I could expect to be paying for the kit?

Oh yeah, cheers John for directing me to the 2nd Guards! much appreciated.

Front of Russia do a good complete kit deal for about £150. That's without a weapon, though there are plenty floating around the unit, so don't make it a priority.

Hi, welcome to the forum!

I would advise you to buy an Obr43 pattern uniform first and then an Obr35 with subdued collar tabs.

Clearly we need to talk to you about joining the unit and how things are run. There is a lot you need to know. (I don't know if you have been in touch with anyone yet?) I am unit 2 i/c.

As you are not a paid up member and have no kit, I would advise you to simply come along to Ft Nelson to meet the group first.

Cheers, Ade.

I found an Obr43 uniform on www.frontofrussia.com, it includes the pilotka and breeches as well. So I'll most likely buy that.

Aren't I a paid member? I sent a cheque with my membership form.

Hi Comrade, sorry, but I was confused by your initial statement that you were joining "soon". Ray (Forum name "Roman" & unit CO) handles all the membership applications. I have not spoken to Ray about your membership yet. Glad to hear you have paid up! Welcome to the unit!

The uniform from "Front of Russia" will be fine. But delivery will take a few weeks.

We don't mind helping out new members with some kit, but as you have nothing at all, bar a Ushanka, this is not going to be easy. First off, we don't know what sizes you take? (Head, chest, waist, foot) Boots are not something we have a big stock of. Boots are really the first thing anyone needs to buy. I don't want to sound negative here or put you off, but we do have to be practical. It does not end there, as you will also need a greatcoat or telogreika. Ft Nelson is always cold! One other thing we need to know is your age.

The unit provides rations for the whole weekend (Sun / Mon: 5 hot meals plus tea/coffee) these are payable for on the day. This will be under £10. We need to know if you are a vegetarian as we do have a few in the unit. The unit will not be catering on the Saturday night, so you will ned to provide you own food for then.

Another practical consideration is you will need your own sleeping gear.

Cheers, Ade.

I have spoken to Semyon about boots; apparantly he has some kit for sale so hopefully I might be able to get some boots off of him. He also asked for my waist size, so I miht get the upper body uniform sorted as well.

My waist size is 32 and so is my inside leg. Hopefully this is all sorted by the time the Fort Nelson event starts as I'm looking forward to participating in it.

As Tara cannot make this event I have a spare unifrom I can bring- if our Comrade is a 32 waist- I imagine Tar's uniform will fit- as long as he has sorted out the boots problem- it should be fine- I even have a spare Shinel (greatcoat)

I'll check again Comrade Coffin and will let you know A.S.A.P.

Andrei, if you have size 10 boots it will be a life saver. I've been trying to find a pair for a while now and there's been no luck so far.

unfortunately sapogi are pretty much the only item i dont have for sale i do have a 10/11 pair of officers boots which you should be able to get away with for one event I wouldnt count on them though as they are tight around the calfs

Comrade Coffin had a pair of boots but size 9, I might be able to fir into them. Although I doubt it.

By the way, I take it I need a Russian name... how about Dmitri Kovalenko? (I think thats a Ukrainian name but thats alright) :D

Everything is getting harder and harder to find. Even at places such as Udilnaya Rhynok you have to go nice and early, and have a bit of luck as well.

Shinels - really, really hard to find those brown ones now, and sapogi are becoming harder - especially the ones with the correct soles.

I have my own Gymnastorka 43, belt and pilotka. So I'm steadily building up on the uniform. Paul West has sharovaris for sale so I'll ask him for the available sizes when I get the money. The unit has spare boots for my size so I won't hurry into finding those (mainly because they're so bloody hard to find in my size!!)

Anyway, cheers guys
