Did the Russians ever mount DP28 on their lend lease jeeps and, if so, did they mount them where the yanks mounted their 30 or 50 cals?
Looks like they mounted all sorts on the back including a small katyushia, but I haven't see an MG mounted.

Cannot say I have never seen this done. Only ever seen Maxims carried in the back.
Cheers, Ade.

Were the maxims actually mounted or just carried?

They were carried in the back and fired from the mount. Here is a good pic.
Cheers, Ade.

Thanks Ade - excellent photo!
Do you suppose the cloud is smoke from the gun or the dust cloud that's blown up?

Unless this is a black-powder variant of the Maxim, I would imagine that this is a staged shot with a smoke-pot off-camera.

When I got my first Gaz jeep I found dozens of spent cartridge cases rattling around in the back. The previous owner had fired a maxim carried in the back in a reenactment and the empties had been ejected into the floor of the Gaz.

Great Trotsky's Beard!!
When I saw that pic I thought it must be an early war one but they've all got shoulder boards so post 1943!

The number of snow cap guns would also suggest late war.

And have you noticed the heavy MGs in the background?
Is there anything they couldn't mount on a horse carriage?
Horse mounted Katyusha?

The horses look as if they had worse rations than the troops. If they keeled over there wouldn't have been buggar all to pick off those old bones except a warm coat for the winter months

Another interesting picture showing the gun on its anti-aircraft mount. Taken from the book 'The Machine Gun' Volume 11, Part VII by George M Chinn.
If anyone has any front views it would be interesting to see the layout of the legs.
