Hi Rob, let us just say that all of John's stuff works fautlessly.
On the ZIS 3, if it is needed we will have to ask the owner Sean for the loan of it. This would entail transport of said item, as Phil brought it before, and he now lives in France (if his move has taken place?)
Cheers, Ade.

20th Century Revisited, we do many impressions from 1900 to 1980. Vast range yes but no expense is spared in any of our impressions!

... reminds me of the thought of "3rd Shock Army" sitting on the other side of the border from where I used to be.

Wombats were a bit of a death sentence because they had such a big back-blast their "launch-signature" gave them away as soon as they fired.
But I suppose in Berlin it would have been more safe with the buildings and so on.
Berlin was always famous for that lovely creative camouflage pattern on the Chieftains.

Hi Walter,
yes the Berlin Camouflage has the name of the British Officer who designed it but I can`t remember his name.

I was thinking Walter, that Berlin Brigade would have been a bit of a Death Sentence anyhow because they started off surrounded by Warsaw Pact forces and so were fighting a rear-guard action from the beginning!
It would have been interesting to see if they were used as a political pawn, or bypassed by the Soviets to be mopped up later.
Or it could have been one of those "Stalingrad" moments with Berlin being symbolic and so on.
It was considered a good posting by the people I met who served there and the Berliners had a unique attitude due to their situation.

we had an ex Berlin chieftain "wedge" (which was the bottom of a tank with the turret missing) and was used to build the new Royal Engineers AVRE . The quality of the paint job on that was superior to the one in the picture.

Bob I think the Berlin posting was probably a forlorn hope as they were as you say already surrounded at the start of any hostilities. They would likely be left and mopped up later.
Re the FV432 I didn't know the camo pattern was identical on all vehicles of the same type,I thought it was a generic scheme applied not literally the same pattern.

Hi Walter , I am off to the range in a tick so this is a quickie !
I did some research yesterday on the design and pattern but can1t remember if all were identical. On a model it noted that "difficult bits" on the Chiefy were left "Deep Bronze Green".
I found an article atributing it to the Major but he had asked to be anonymous then in another article it attributed it to a double-barreled Brigadier ! I wonder if the Major was rapidly proomted or whether the Brig stole his credit!!
I also tried to find an FV number for the Rarden Turreted 432 but there doesn`t seem to be one.
I think Trench Rums Wombat would have been waiting for a T64 or a &72 at that time ,not a T74.
On a political note: the Soviets introduced the T64 MBT with its autoloader then got rid of all the gunners ; so they replaced the aging T62 with a superior machine and claimed it as a reduction in standing troop levels ! Nice one !
Must dash mate My Mosie is pining for the range. Urrrah !!

EX..Comrade.. This is Most Unfortunate, .... it will effect your Employment record with a Negative Report, such Reactionary Crimes against the Peace Loving Soviet People's and their Fraternal Comrades of the European Socialist Workers States, will only be washed away with Blood....
This Comrade, IS... Most Unfortunate......
Duty Car... on route.
The Berlin Camouflage scheme was to a template system, to a controlled pattern... I heard of a British Officer the had his VW Beetle painted in it..
Only Fighting Vehicles were to be so Painted....It is a Cool Pattern!!

Ah but ,most respected and revered Comrade, I`m not scared cos I had an ace morning on the range ! Honing my skills , learning how to operate my rifle from the opposite shoulder and becoming aquainted with the trigger "pressure" characteristics on the Nagant.
More importantly Comrade Semyon tested his new Mosin Nagant ; It has lovely engraving on the (hex) receiver.
Semyons blanks impressed everyone !! (Especially the Range Officer!) with their wonderful flash and satisfying bang!
When you have a silly grin on your face.... nothing can frighten you !
Have good weekend Comrade ...enjoy.

Great stuff Simon, glad you enjoyed it. I downloaded the video and it is quite good.
You should see the looks of interest from the other firers when they notice the muzzle-flash from the blank in your rifle !
I have burned a CD for you to keep.
The sound is reasonable and has captured a very satisfying cocking sound when my rifle is loaded.
I texted the Peter Lawman details to you.I am going to ring him tomorrow to arrange for some rounds.
I realised just now that in my earlier comments on the T64 I mentioned the Soviets binning the "gunnners" ; well of course I should have said the "loaders".
All the best and I hope the grin is visible from beneath your beard!!

Comrades, we are trying to put together a big crowd or reenactors to visit Detling this year, let's see what comes of it...
We will also try to bring along reenactors from other periods, like early 18th century Russian Imperial Army and (maybe) medieaveal guys...
Red Army greetings,
Bair
