Next Years Events Calendar

Postby Starshiiy Rob on Fri Sep 28, 2007 10:29 am

What's in the frame for next year so far? I'm assuming it's something like:

January - Leningrad
March - Fort Nelson
May - Belvoir Castle
June - Colchester (?)
July - Beltring (?)
August - Peak Rail, Kelmarsh, Detling
September - Victory Show
October - North Yorks Moors Railway

(?) - I didn't know if Colchester was a regular event and there's some question over whether reenacters will be welcome at Beltring this year.

Have I missed anything?

Kelmarsh all the way. I've had reconstructive surgery that was more fun than this year's Beltring.

Concerning Ireland, yes we can. There's a good few events on in the Republic, and I'm sure Hugh will give us details of them. Duncannon was tons of fun last year, we just didn't have the weather.

Stalin's dream scenario

Postby Welsh Comrade on Sat Sep 29, 2007 10:12 am

An event in Ireland would be cool. I can't see any reason why, following the dismal failure of the Second Front, the glorious RKKA didn't get that far.....in Stalin's dreams. LOL

(He always regretted not getting to Paris as the Tsar's army did in 1814).

In answer to the question about Colchester... the Air Assault boys will all be out to play in 2008 so there won't be an Army families day in Colchester in 2008 (in case you don't know/remember the Saturday was an Army thing, the Sunday was Howard and a local company's efforts alone)

AFAIK at this point in time, Howard and the other company haven't come to an agreement on whether they want to do both days on their own or if there won't be a Colchester in 2008.

As for W&P vs Kelmarsh question... I'd recommend you don't miss Kelmarsh as that is invite only - not everyone gets to play and if you (the 2nd) blot your copybook, you might not be back in 2009....

Shame they have chosen to clash the dates though, although 20th century is only a very small part of Kelmarsh.

Kelmarsh gets my vote over Beltring.

I'd be up for it if there's an Ireland trip.

Bovington - we were originally down for it but it was Yanks only vs. Fasch this year. Is this not for us next year too?

If you want to consider something different, a good event I did with the Tommy group I used to be in was the VE-day event at Gunpowder Mills, Waltham Abbey. I don't know if 2nd Guards has been there before?

Dont worry if he does, as we have a Guards water boy on the lookout to replenish dry tankettes, and also me to make sure tankette is watched over at all times.

Cheers, Lez.

YESSSSS to Kelmarsh

Postby Comrade Coffin on Mon Oct 01, 2007 2:11 pm

Its a big YYYEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!! for Kelmarsh from me- I've had to miss it due to my wedding anniverasry falling on the same date for years- at last I can go. Unless I get a quick divorce & remarry on that week-end in 2008 of course.

Unless I marry Simon's wife- she would probably allow me to go to the event & marry me by proxy.
“Freedom” is a grand word, but under the banner of freedom for industry the most predatory wars were waged, under the banner of freedom of labour, the working people were robbed.
