Hello everyone.

I would like to ask you all about the use of a Y-strap with the Soviet Uniform. are there any dues and don't in that area. I have a M 35 uniform with subdued collar taps. Have the meshok rucksack an m44 or a 91/30 mosin nagant.

Please all help is welcome.

Best regards from Iceland
narg

Hi Narg, welcome to the forum!

These straps were only used in the early part of the war, so the M35 uniform is fine along with the M91/30 rifle.

Have a look at the pictures on the forum by our comrade Viktor aka "Peoples Army"

Cheers, Ade.

Thank you Adrian for the welcome and the info.

Why is it that the Russians quit using these Y straps ?

I think it was due to cost cutting. It was an item that was considered a good idea, but one which the troops could afford to do without.

Cheers, Ade.

Comrades, Investigation of a Bonn Gangster Image store Complex found this...

Image

Likely this is unlawful use of State Property... the matter was dealt with Minimal Force.. a Tank Regiment.

Comrades After what seems like years of waiting (Just like a DDR citizen after a Trabant) OSTFRONT have finally made their reproduction of the RKKA Y strap. Take note they have 2 sizes on offer.

I wonder if these are "Osttruppen"? Seems to have rank done in Russian fashion on a couple of the shoulder straps?

Cheers, Ade.

Nice, but they're not y-straps on your photo, it's a rare (and expensive) type of pre-war Sam Browne called 'port-epee' in Russian.

The webbing Y-straps.... Well, who wore them and where and when depended on the type of soldier - whereas much after June 1941 all the infantry units who wore them were either dead or captured, certain types of technical troops, and NKVD soldiers who were less likely to have been swept up in the early days of Barbarossa could and did wear them right up to the end of the war.

That's interesting to know, these are commonly called officers Y-straps in Finland. Port'epee is something totally different, here we know that as a long decoration that is hanging from a sword and it is held in parades.
