very very drunk, and on the way home by train from the Victory day celebrations on HMS Belfast. Only reenactor there in Naval infantry kit , and a real big wig event. Met the Russian ammbasador, naval military attache, and Prince Michaeal of Kent and of course both soviet and british veterans. Great hospitality from the crew aboard Belfast, and they made shore I did not feel too lost. Hosted and organised by the Russians it was a somewhat chaotic affair with a Bulgarian dance troop dancing, or trying too in a space 8ft X 6ft, with a broken cassette player that was on minimum volume, The veterans took it well as the troop consisted of 18 and 19 year old girls that were given a great round of applause. Lots of photos taken with me and the nice thing was everyone thought I was Russian including the Ambassador, and military attache, wih my Russian was better. The vodka flowed after the event and it was good to talk to some of the veterans, if there were somewhat inebhiated. We are invited or will be next year and it is worth putting this into our calender. I have a bottle of excellent quality vodka for the bunker bash in my gasmask bag.

We will never forget the sacrifices made by mother Russia during the GPW.(other Soviet states are available).
If we can support events like the Belfast one it will surely raise the profile of the efforts and sacrifices made by all soviet citizens during their hour of need.
It's a pity there aren't more ceremonial events put on in their honour in the west.
