Hello from another new recruit (yep, I'm already paid up). I don't know anyone in the unit (yet) but I have seen your display at Kelmarsh since I'm also a member of the Fairfax Battalia (ECWS) and have been re-enacting for 10 years+.

I don't have any kit at all but I've been looking at the suggested vendor websites particularly at the package deals.

Fort Nelson is a bit far this weekend so I'm thinking of making the Kelveden event in May. Kelmarsh might be a bit hectic!

Cheers

Chris 'Chopper' Williams

Welcome to the unit and the forum comrade chopper.Look forward to meeting you in person soon.

If you look at the 2nd guards website and this forum you'll soon get to know most of us by sight at least.

More fresh meat for the grinder- fantastic!

Shame you can't make it to Nelson Chris - it is a great event & the artillery museum there is very good, as is the Fort (it is one of the Palmerston Forts & was designed to bombard Portsmouth in the event of the French invading it).

Thanks for all your replies and warm welcomes.

Sorry I can't make Fort Nelson this weekend, but I have been there before for a 'Guy Fawkes' event (re-enacting his early career in the Low Counties with plenty of musket firing in the dark).

I'd prefer to turn up with at least some kit in a vain attempt to join in as soon as possible so I'll need to make some online purchases by the looks of it. One quick question though, if I'm given the choice of kharki fabric or army green fabric which should I go for?

Ok, so in order to get up to speed on the uniform/kit front I was thinking of getting most of it in one hit from Trident Military. They do a 'Complete Soviet Mid War Uniform package 1943-1945', which seems like a good idea. This is the wording of the list from the package from the website:

This set is representative of the uniforms issued to Soviet troops from about January 1943 through the end of the war in 1945. Available in either Soviet Army Khaki fabric or Soviet Army Green fabric.

Includes
· M43 tunic made from Soviet fabric
· M43 trousers made from soviet fabric
· EM shoulderboards
· M43 pilotka with red or green star
· EM belt
· Brown or black Mosin Nagant ammo pouch
(for PPSH pouch add $5.00 to package)
· Canteen with cover
· Soviet enlisted ranks boots
· Plash-palatka
· Messtin
· Grenade Pouch
· Soviet 1944 dated straight handle shovel with carrier
· Rucksack

This looks to be a comprehensive list but I would very much appreciate some confirmation that all these items are appropriate.

Thanks

Chopper

Hi Chopper, that would be fine.

Make sure you get the khaki fabric and not the green or tan. (One on the right of the pic)

Ammo pouch needs to be brown.

If you wish the pocketless version of the Gym would be good to get.

Cheers, Ade.

Welcome Comrade Chopper, and Tak Tochno Comrade it is best to source Pocketless Gym's then wash the Living daylights out of it so it fades.

Also always wear your E-Tool on the left Hip and your Water Bottle on the Left, it was the Red army Norm for their Personal Equipment Complexes.

The Glorious 2nd Guards is a fine State Organ, the Glorious 13th Guards which I serve in is a fraternal Comrade to them.

:D

I hereby request permission to use the regimental cattle prod or a particularly vicious fire-iron for use on Trident Military. Having devoted literally minutes of research on who to place an order with they seem reluctant to service my needs. Spending cash has never been harder!

I fear my current kit is...lacking a certain ju ne ce qua.

Thanks for the hint, Tank, but running around in just a helmet and sub-machine gun is not my idea of a 'Shock' Army. Anyway Trident have assured me that my order is being dealt with....

Can't make Bovingdon, sorry chaps, I shall be in Turkey on holiday and probably paying for a large hairy man to soap me up and rub me down (apologies to Colin for that mental image). Kelmarsh Banya(?) here we come (apologies to Colin for further innuendo).
