Mayday in Leningrad - a modest proposal

Postby Starshiiy Rob on Fri May 11, 2007 11:26 pm

Comrades
Would anyone be interested in going to St. Petersburg for Mayday next year? The event would be run on conventional Bair Tours lines (out on Weds., home on Sunday night), but without the reenactment, which leaves a day free for shopping, sightseeing or cultural activities. Price would be the same, as would the rest of the tour, just a little more relaxed.
NOTE: The Operation Spark event in January will still run! This is just a change of pace event for anyone who was a bit frustrated by the frantic pace and rock and roll lifestyle of the last one this January. A supplement to, not a replacement for!

Semyon

The last trip worked out about £300-£350.
Which included flights and hotels and various museum entries.
I would reccommend the January trip without hesitation. The experience of re-enacting on the actual battlefield at the same time of year as the actual battle is well worth it.

A trip in May would give us chance for some sightseeing around St petes which we didn't get to do so much last time.

so provisionally Rob you can put me and my lovely wife down for the may trip.

Sounds like a plan Rob, depending on how my (hopefully) graduate finances are doing by then I may be up for it.

Comrades,

this sounds like a good idea. I would propose that we stay somewhere outside St Petersburg as prices in May are getting ridiculously high.

One of the options would be to stay on the Karelian Isthmus, have battlefield tours of Winter War 1939-1940 and the Grand offensive of 1944 and then make a daytrip to St Petersburg on Victory Day.

Time could be 7-11.5.2008, which would leave us plenty of time for sightseeing, celebrating Victory Day and shopping.

Red Army greetings,

That's great Bair. In that case, some of us will be coming on two tours to St.Petersburg next year. Would the battlefield tour be of Winter War or Continuation War battlefields?

May Day

Postby Roman on Wed Jul 25, 2007 7:05 pm

1st Guards Rifle Division - 2nd Guards Rifle Division

The May Day trip seemed a good idea as I chatted to Biar a few months ago because it may give us the opportunity to meet the veterans who are still alive.
