2nd Guards Rifle Division

I have received that dates and info on the Detling event.

MILITARY ODYSSEY 23rd, 24th & 25th AUGUST 2008
Reading through the bumf 2 things stand out, this is word for word;

1. Passes are for those persons that are fully paid up members of your group or society and are participating in the weekend's event. Passes are not for family members wanting a day out; we can pre arrange specially discounted tickets for those that wish to attend as a day visitor.

This year we stopped over 40 people entering over the weekend with passes given to them. Some of them did not even know the name of the group or what the band represented except a "Free Way In!"

2. Please note that for 2008 we will NOT be providing horses for this year. However, we will provide £25 per mount per day to owner riders that bring their own horse or arrange for horses to attend through reputable stables.

Let me know your thoughts.....................

I know how you feel comrade as I suspect that Gary Howard is cutting costs again. Is this a downward trend? Only time will tell.

If he is just cutting costs then something like this could turn around and bite him in the arse.

If the battles get less impressive then the punters aren't going to come back.

Perhaps he is saving the money to go towards toilet cleaning.... :roll:

Seems a sad situation, all this cost cutting makes for a poorer show.

Cheers, Ade.

This is will be the third year running that cost-ctutting has been put in the way of a good show. Money for pyros was halved in 2006, AFVs were severely reduced in 2007, horses cut for 2008. This show is going to be nickel-and-dimed into the floor.
A pity, it's the best shop window for reenactment in the world.

Comrades, It is more likely these cut backs are to boost Tank Production. :lol: ...

Oh, at the Detling Front, The late Night Film we saw , that was translated by our Honoured Comrade, about the Retreat to the Don Bend, what was it called?... :D

The historical dialectic would suggest otherwise - see my comment about this year's show.

It was (and is) called 'They Fought for their Motherland', directed by the Honoured Artist Bondarchuk. You may be interested to learn that a version with English subtitles is available from Nouveaux Pictures.

Eeh, I miss one Detling and it goes to pot :)
Bit gutted as I was dying to see you guys mounted ,er,so to speak, when Im back on my feet and a "fully paid up member" again....
Maybe if as a group we invest in coconuts we could simulate mounted troops,just behind the treeline?

Comrades I will be talking to Gary Howard and asking for our T34 to be present for our public 3 day battles. If he renages on this then we will be considering our options.
There are of course plan B and C but lets see.

2nd Guards Rifle Division

MILITARY ODYSSEY 23/24/25th AUGUST

I have news about the above event and the public battle. Have spoken to Gary and this is what is penciled in:

1. Neils T34 in the battle with tank riders;

2. We should have two cavalryman with mounts;

3. The houses in a better position for all round vision;

4. The field gun with our Russian comrades;

5. The maxim with 400 blanks;

6. A YAK aircraft that will take part in the battle scenario including low flying over the battle field;

7. Pyrotechnics for the above representing dropped bombs.

Have spoken to Martin who now has a lot to think about for the scenario.
Gary is thinking of hiring the weapons himself as he is a section 5 dealer, he has the following:

1. 2 x PPS43 with 100 9mm - £65
2. 5 x PPSh43 with 100 rounds - £65
3. 2 x Nagant snipers rifles
4. 2 x SVT semi auto rifles

There's a lot to think about...................
