2nd Guards Rifle Division

FORT NELSON - 23rd/24th MARCH 2008

What is in the planning for this event is our usual living history display but also manning another area that will be made up as a trench where we can inform members of the public about the Glorious Red Army.

The usual weapons display will be a bit different, we will enter the arena on a T34 and will have Tank Riders aboard. The troops debuss and attack the enemy, another victory for the Red Army.

This is to be confirmed so watch this space.

I can mow the grass !

Andy do you want somebody to clean the ladles ?

I agree with you about the Maxim Andy she is a beautiful, and has a sound like nothing else.

Just think though.......it will be good to work with a live T34 :P

There is nothing on earth which has the character of a tracked vehicle.

They smell different and they sound different, and they flow..... like wind-blown silk sheets across the battlefield.

The only drawback is that as soon as you look at one you get dirty!
(but then that applies to women too I suppose!!?).

Tank riders Rus

Postby Bobhr on Mon Nov 19, 2007 11:52 pm

The purr of the maxim with the creaking rumble of tracks in the background.....roaring engines..... smoking exhausts....the sound of poveda.

They rumble, creak and roar ,and at the gallop, flow across the battlefield ,suspension and tracks floating over the terrain.

On the back cling battle-worn soldiers ready to spring to the ground ...and bring reality ......to an enemy living in a dream......

.....Watched Ballad of a Soldier on YouTube last night, inspired me a bit!

2nd Guards Rifle Division

We should have all the weapons to hire like the PPS43 PPSh41 and Maxim.
But you can only be a part of the event if you turn up and support the unit !

As a regular at Ft Nelson and also a regular on the back of Neils T34 at Detling I hope there will be a place for me leaping from the tank papasha blazing away,

Cant wait for this show and at last the public will get to see something different, namely the army that won the war in all its glory.

Fort Nelson was always a good gig well worth the trip out for. Sounds like you have a nice new twist to it which should keep it fresh for the public.

Good luck with it Comrades!

Imoff

Postby Bobhr on Tue Nov 20, 2007 7:25 pm

Imoff the vodka, so I will have to see what Cider or red wine do !

I can`t wait to get aquainted with the T34.

We were taught how to go underneath tanks while we were training in Vogelsang in Germany and I am tempted to see if the ground-clearance is enough to demonstrate it.

It is so simple: you squat in front and as the hull touches your hands you stand up (ie :extend your legs!).the tank pushes you backwards from the waist and you extend your arms above your head as she passes over you.
You finish up lying on your back looking up at the belly of the tank with your arms pointing up along the ground over your head.

Ours were the little American light-tanks with the T-shaped muzzle and they had a handle convenientltly positioned and welded on the front! So it would depend upon what is there to hold onto.

It would have to be done on a flat concrete surface though or it could go wrong.

If the clearance is safe I could do it easily and it would look ace for the public. Just pray the suspension doesn`t collapse !!

PS: I have only had a cup of tea before writing this !

Seriousl;y though I will have a good look at the clearance on the day andthat will determine if it can be done ; it is really safe.

Remember, there's something much more poweful than a tank nowadays - H & S. I'd love to see you do this Bob but I doubt it will happen at any public show we do :)

Very brave of you comrade Bobhr but that's not how the NKVD will see things as you were flattened by one of our own tanks and facing upwards to the tank while your back was facing the enemy meaning that you were running away from the Invaders of our Motherland!
How do you plead comrade, guilty of running away from the enemy or guilty of fighting for the enemy?

Can you imagine telling the insurance company of your exploits? Pretty sure the phone would be slammed down on me!!
Not a good idea comrade because there are easier ways of getting a medal!!!
