Hello fellow Soviet reenactors. I am Benjamen Salata a member in good standing of the 197th guard based in Florida USA. (www.197thguard.com) I have been reenacting Red Army for four years and travel frequently to Ostfronts in the south-east United States. My unit also has put together a small Ostruppen unit, the 360th Cossack/ 1St ROA. Hope our chats are both fun and educational.

This past year I authored an article on the unit in the UK based publication Skirmish.

Here is the article

Hi Benjamen, I remember the article well - you have a very professional-looking outfit. Welcome to the forum.
If any of your group have ever considered doing an event in England, please get in touch. At Military Odyssey in Kent every August we have a contingent with us from the former USSR, and your group would be most welcome as well.
In the meantime, come on in, enjoy the ambience! :D

Thank you Rob. We may look professional but in the field we are completely disorganized and fool-hardy. Some of our members do travel to the UK but kit out in USGI. I would love to go one day. In Georgia and Florida gun rights are pretty strong. How do they differ in Europe? I can't see getting the pps-43 through security on either end.

The the web designer: This is a great looking site. Does it allowance for footers as well as avatars?

I can't speak for the rest of Europe, except to say that in Finland they seem pretty relaxed about guns, but in the UK it's a nightmare. The New Labour government, in an attempt to look bad and dangerous on gun crime, recently attempted and is still attempting to ban deactivated weapons, in spite of there being no proven instance of a deac being used in a crime. The UK uses the war on terror as an excuse to take away civil liberties as well.

Sorry, bit of a rant there.

As for the PPS, we have plenty of weapons in the UK you could borrow if you came over, along with ones for your comrades too. For private and public battles we go with weapon hire companies who have jumped through the colossal hoops necessary to get a class 5 firearms licence.

There may be a bit of a delay on the site question. The webmaster is on holiday in Egypt at the moment, but I'll ask him when he comes back. It's a valid question.

I hear you. If you Democrat party takes office we may face further eroding of our 2nd amendment rights. But there is hope and his name is Ron Paul.

I filmed a couple times last year for the military channel *weaponology series) and the production company couldn't believe the guns we had. Here is a photo link

Hi Benjamen, welcome to the forum. :) Sorry in the delay in saying "Hello" to you, but as Rob mentioned I have been away on holiday for a couple of weeks in Egypt.

I enjoyed reading the links you posted. Ron Paul seems very popular within miltaria collecting circles in the USA. One or two American friends of mine have been singing his praises.

Overseas visitors are always welcome to our bigger events.

In regards to "footers" being used on the forum, there is no direct provision within the forum software, but several members do use them via linked images. I have no problems with this.

Cheers, Ade.

That may be true but that dosen't mean a tough gun law will change anything...
Canada, which many Americans consider as a Soviet State, passed a law not long ago which required all rife owners to register their firearms. This was after some idiot decided to shoot up a college in Montreal. The result of all this, after the government had spent 1 billion dollars more than they said it would cost to set this thing up. Was that another idiot went shooting at another college in Montreal using weapons that were legally registered. So the only thing this accomplished was making it harder for the re enactment community in Canada to do the thing they enjoy doing. My breif rant here.....

All right, Andy, as you seem to be going for the comrade Todd award for the Red Army reenacter who knows the most in the least helpful way, what are the statistics on gun crime with deacs? I just struggle to remember the last time someone did a branch of the Norwich with a Maxim, or turned over the local sub-post office with a Mosin-Nagant? Like I said, no proven instance meaning in that frame of reference, which was obvious in the context of my message. (My proof - no one else pulled me up on it, or maybe they're too mature/polite to go for petty point scoring. Not that I'm pointing a finger or anything).
