M35 collar tabs

Postby Psjennikov on Sat Mar 15, 2008 8:00 pm

Comrades! Im in need of enlightment about the M35 uniform collar tabs!

I have seen both red and green coloured collar tabs for infantry on the M35 (you guessed it, I normally only use M43) and whats the difference?

Ive started to look around to kit up for summers Leningrad visit and want to buy right stuff so I dont make a fool of me again (ehm psjennikov - Vodka...hmmm)

so what do you comrades say?

I'm sure we only use the red collar tabs for the M35 shirt.
If you look on the 2nd guards web site in gallery No1.Then 2007 pictures and then Fort nelson you will see some good pics of us wearing our M35s for an early war scenario we did last year.

The green collar tabs in the same pics are for NKVD border guard troops.

Thanks mate that helped a bit.

What difference is there between the M43 "kit" and M35 kit?
exept from a new shirt, was the pants any different?

I guess I need a leather belt as my canvas/leather belt wasnt in produce yet.

Something else to think of?

When you say "Green" coloured collar tabs, are you thinking of the subdued khaki green tabs? These were introduced to replace the brightly coloured pre war tabs.

No real difference in the pants.

Cheers, Ade.

Those are the green ive seen on some M35 wich are claimed to be infantry and:
http://www.tridentmilitary.com/new-phot ... y-tabs.jpg
I have seen on other pics...

So red is prewar and was fastly replaced by the green ones as they didnt stand out as much right?

Wich would be right for barbarossa in June 2008 ?

That's right.I forgot about the subdued green tabs.
They were brought in in 1941 because the red ones stood out too much and made a good aiming point for enemy snipers.

When the shirt changed in 43 the trousers stayed the same.

One triangle on each tab, comrade. Red triangles on red tabs (ie 1941 and before) painted khaki ones after late 1941, as a rule. Nothing is hard and fast with the Red Army after all.
To answer your earlier question, the tunic seems to have been the only thing that changed in 1943. Breeches look identical to the 1935 pattern.

Has anyone actually seen air force / VDV collar tabs? Is the colour supposed to be a pale sky blue with black piping? I think the same as Engineer tabs?
This was the colour I was expecting but I just bought some and the colour is more like a pale greeny blue almost turquoise. :?

Engineer tabs are black piped in royal blue. Air force are pale blue (about the same as the blue part of a West Ham shirt) piped in black. Are these Trident tabs that you have? The colours are very dodgy with some of their stuff.

No not from Trident - got them on e-bay.
On here: http://www.uniforminsignia.net/index.php?p=state&id=134
There seems to be a change in the shade of blue for VDV in 1940.
1936-40 is paler, 1940- 43 it's a brighter darker colour more like the collar tabs I have. Not sure how accurate the coulours are on this site.

The colour shown here:

http://www.uniforminsignia.net/index.ph ... 4&sid=1958

is about right.

Never heard of a change in shade.

Cheers, Ade.

Okay thanks Ade.

On that website the colour for 1936-40 http://www.uniforminsignia.net/index.ph ... 4&sid=1957 is a paler blue than for 1940-43 http://www.uniforminsignia.net/index.ph ... 4&sid=1958

I suspect some sort of technical error in that document... as far as I know the VVS sky blue remainded the same all the way through - and VDV sky blue is exactly the same as VVS blue.

A Good Progressive Choice Comrades,,,

Postby People's Army on Sun Apr 06, 2008 12:29 am

Comrades,
This is yet another advantage of a Centrally controlled form of Progressive Government where all Votes are unanimous  ... the flip side is... :? it can cost a small fortune in the cost of 7.62 x 38 mm R Small Arms Ammunition.... .

However if you notice there are changes in colour for engineers, chemical troops, over the 36-41 period, which is confusing.
