New Partisan

Postby Trench_Rum on Sat Nov 10, 2007 11:12 pm

Hello Chaps,
Some of you may have seen me in my Russian partisan impression and i really enjoy it. My friend also wants to start re-enacting a Russian partisan, i don't know much about the Red Army or Russian Partisan in WW2 so do you have any uniform, weapons or general information for 2 new partisaners?

Cheers,
Trench Rum

The new Osprey Warrior 'Soviet Rifleman 1941-45' is a good starting point, albeit with a few dodgy bits in the history.

Also check the bibliography thread under 'media'. Plenty to go on.

Basically it should be a mix of soviet early war uniform if you want to portray a soldier who got left behind. and some russian style civvies which are slightly different to western civvy clothing of the time and possibly some captured fasch kit but this would probably be boots.

also any weapon you want to carry from either side but try and keep pistols to a minimum unless you are representing a leader of some kind as I believe that pistols were seen more as a badge of rank by the red army.

Hope this helps anything else just ask i'm sure someone will be able to help you out.

Cheers andy

Be grubby,or should I say Shabby :). The crisp white shirt is smart for le maquisards but the avarage East front partizan would keep as clean as possible but still retain the look of tooled up tramp (at least to western eyes),keep it simple to begin with, not too fussy, just a bag and a couple of potatoe mashers, rather than loads of gucci web gear etc. Normaly the movies are a pee poor way into the correct look of things but " Come and See" is (,atleast for the partizans )pretty authentic(just dont laugh to load at some of the dodgy fasch gear) and also a bloomin good film.
And last of all,a hearty welcome from another S Yorks "partizan" :)

I found this image on www.theeasternfront.co.uk/thepartisanwar.htm
an wanted to know if that chap in the cap and greatcoat on the lower bit of the bridge is a partisan or a member of the Red Army, and does his headwear denote his rank or is it a early type OR's uniform?

The flat cap (or furazhka) is normally an officer or senior NCO piece of headgear, but was also worn by all ranks of the cavalry and border guards.
I would guess that this guy is an officer, mainly by the canvas overcoat he's wearing.

Partisans

Postby Welsh Comrade on Sat Apr 05, 2008 6:59 pm

We need a Partisan Group in 2nd Guards. I'm game, becoming rather too 'grandfatherly' to be anything but a cook, General or partisan. I'd rather not spend all my time peeling potatoes.......

I'm game. I can bring my shotgun. :P

Suggest you talk to Comrade Coffin.

That photo could also be a chekist... they made quite a big thing of the role of the NKVD with the partisans.... although we can probably all guess what exactly the role of the NKVD was in stiffening their resistance...

I doubt that an NKVD operative would wear the 'sinye furazhka' or 'madder red' petlitsi in that situation though.

Having said that, the OMSBON were all trained for partizan warfare (the role they were originally formed to do - similar to the Home Guard Auxillaries) so they were ideal for providing partizans with the skills and structure they needed.

Taking a guess, I'd say that they might wear a furazhka like this though -

http://www.undertheredstar.com/Army/m46special.jpg

which is for 'Special Troops'.

Indeed the leader of the Partizan unit in Idi i Smotri is wearing one of those.

Yes I would say that its unlikely to be the crazy full colour gear in real life, but this is a propaganda photo - I'd say its unlikely this is a photo of a real partizan action in the first place

Oh definitely - I can't think anybody would try and set charges on a bridge in broad daylight, far less hang around taking photos while doing so!
