hi comrades , i was just looking through the ww2 forum when i noticed a thread on maxims .(soviet weapon section , stef was on there , so he knows what its about )
one of the items they were talking about was the different types of mounts the gun was mounted on .
i was wondering if anyone had any photos of these mounts , also the different types of shield used on the the maxim , i know of the standard one , but there was one with a view port with cover as well , are there any other types ?
cheers , grigoriev .

Unit QM Paul has had made a replica armour sheild with the extra cut out to allow the long range sight to be used.
I do have the odd pic in books, but I will have to dig them out.
I have certainly seen stuff on the 'net. I think I am right in saying that the Finns did mods too?
World Wide Arms had some sheilds a few years ago with mods to them, sliding hatches were on them.
Cheers, Ade.

I am one of the very few people who collect Russian Maxims and I probably started the thread on the other forum. I am currently up to 5 different patterns of M1910 pattern Maxims, all on slightly different patterns of Sokolov Mounts to reflect their year of manufacture.
If you want to have a look at some photographs take a look at this forum.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/M1910Maxim/
I have an example of a shield with the optical aperture which has been sealed by having a plate riveted over. The optical sight was developed between the wars and I believe saw very little use. I have never seen one for sale.
There is also this magazine if you can find anyone to translate.

If any one has any bits to trade / sell please contact me.

Some interesting pictures there comrade m1910.
I like the Rambo style pose about fourth picture down.
Also I jave not seen the mount carried over the shoulders before.
Thank you for those.

This link may or not interest some members. http://talks.guns.ru/forummessage/36/359039.htmlI picked up a Maxim with a strange fitting which on one no one on any Western Forum could seem to identify. Thanks to a Russian collector who posted a picture on this Forum I now have the answer. Unfortunately the gun has been rebuilt with the late pattern rear sight and feed block, but for a Maxim anorak it is a rare variant.

Cheers, Ade.

Correct.
In the period picture you can also see a pipe leading to where the spent rounds are ejected. There is also a condensor tank for the water jacket.
Quite where such Bunkers existed I do not know, but I believe the text is talking about the 1930's as a date.

Here is one bunker in a place called Pograndushi, which is near the eastern shore of Lake Ladoga in the Karelian Republic. It was built in the 1930's to defend the Soviet-Finnish border, but when the Great Patriotic War started in 1941 the Finnish army simply bypassed it. This is why it's undamaged. A good site, but a bit of a journey out there! I have more detailed pictures of the bunker back in Pieter.

I have one of the WW1 mounts with the fold down front legs but unfortunately the Finns cut them off during a WW2 rebuild.
I am trying to find a complete one to copy.
