Well, there you are. The odd thing is that I lived within walking distance of that for three years and never had a clue that it was there.
I stand by my original comment about it being tasteless to commemorate another country's war dead, though.

A very interesting thread here Michael, thanks for the posts.
Simon ,I didn't realise the memorial was near the Imperial War Museum. The better half and I were in London a couple of weks ago for a bit of sight seeing.
I passed up a trip to the IWM to earn brownie points on a trip to see Tutankhamens exhibition at the O2 arena instead.I wish I'd done the IWM now and would have gone to the Soviet memorial for sure.
However in September we are going to Dorset for a short holiday and while there we will take a day trip over to Jersey on the ferry.
It is my intention whilst in Jersey to visit the bunkers built during the war by Soviet POWs and lay some flowers in memory of the ones that didn't make it home.
Doing my bit to keep the memory alive .

I can't believe you lot never heard of the memorial before?
I've tried to organise a delegation to the flower laying for some time... but nobody was interested!!
Let me know if you want me to try again... there might be some gotchas involved... pm me if you are serious about it!
As for Jersey, I seem to remember there is a memorial in the fascist underground field hospital complex to the Soviet POWs who died building it, have a look for it - seem to also remember there being flowers on that too.
If you want to see a really strange Soviet memorial in the West, have a look on the Dutch island of Texcel!!!

How about on either May 9th (Victory day), or Feb 23rd (Defenders Day) 2009?
It would be even better if we could combine it with a joint (i.e 'non denominational', as it were) static display event at the IWM.
