Potential 2 day show in North Yorks.

Postby Starshiiy Rob on Thu May 03, 2007 1:00 am

Comrades,
There is a plan in place to organise a two day reenactment/MV event in North Yorkshire (close to Darlington) for the last weekend in April next year. Granted that this is a Northern event, could forum members tell me if they would be interested in going to it, other events permitting?
This isn't fixed, it's closer to market research at the moment.

Many Thanks

Hi Rob, Lez and I would potentially be interested.

Hi Sam, your best bet is to buy 4 Plash-Palatka's. These button up into a small tent. You will see us using them at Belvior.

Cheers, Ade.

tents

Postby Bobhr on Thu May 03, 2007 10:21 pm

Hi Samuel ,Ive just bought Plasches from Ostfront and Trident and they take about two weeks to arrive.
The standard tan ones are cheapest but the green and black or the brown cam on tan cost about $99 each ;I think Ostfrionts standard tan one was around $45 dollars and with the exchange rates at the moment you can roughly halve the dollar price.
I was lucky and had no extra costs levied when they "came ashore" here.
I originally planned to have two as a shelter and one as a rain-cape but it looks like I will need another two !
Maybe a mortgage will be a good idea !

If you can hold on until Detling, I'll have a word with our men in the East. They could probably do four plasches for $99. Don't pay Trident's prices, there is much cheaper to be had.

I'd be up for this too Rob and I could tack a Tyneside family visit onto it.

Plasches - is the only difference between wartime and postwar the leather and metal eyelets?
I've ordered a leather eyed one from Ostfront but there are some postwar types on e-bay quite cheap (although usual arm + leg for postage), I was thinking of getting some of these for tentage.

Try not to get the plaschs with the metal eyelets because you'll spend ages taking the metal out and sewing up the holes.

Our Kapitan usually has one or two spares you could probably borrow for tentage.

if you can hang on until Detling when our friends come over from Russia they will no doubt bring a ruck of kit for sale at much lower prices than Ostfront or Trident.

Okay, my pukka plasche arrived from Ostfront, I'll hold fire on the others.
Also got an original PPS sling but the leather pieces are literally as dry as Gandhi's flip-flops :( got some Ko-Cho-Line working on them should do the job :)

Neats foot oil

Postby Bobhr on Mon May 28, 2007 9:49 pm

Hi Simon,
I have some neats-foot oil which you can put on your PPS sling.
If you PM me your address I will put some in a bottle and post it to you.
I used it on boots, and any leather items now.
It feeeds and rejuvinates the leather .

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the offer but the Ko-Cho-Line has done the job nicely. It was recommended by a saddler. Ta.
