Private battle 'operation Tempest' Poland February 1944.

In the centre the Russians moved further into Poland.
All the time German commanders were severely restricted by Hitler's refusal to allow them to fall back on more defensible positions. Large formations found themselves encircled by the Russians and the Germans' limited resources were used up in rescuing them.

The polish home army is revealed as German defences begin to crumble in Poland, the home army begins to attack the Germans in preparation for liberation by the Russian forces.

This battle will be held on the 16th and 17th February 2008 at Pippingford park in East Sussex which is an excellent training area with roads rivers bridges and varying geography toilet and water facilities on site as well as section 5 hire from John Oxslade. site fee £20.

Regular Russian, partisan or Polish home army reenators welcome please PM me for further information or email lee.attwells@googlemail.com to book in.

Well, b***er me. Finally an AK event 3 years of collecting and research pays off atlast, shame its easier for me to get to Warsaw from here than hundred acre woods
Im guesing its operation tempest in the east(the bit where the home army did most of the actual fighting then the red army comes in for the parades(and then shoots the home army) then,I cant recall that many ruined houses around pip though it might be interesting to have RKKA on one side of the river and AK on the other, with maybe a couple of canoes for the odd LWP reenactor to try and get across......
I will try and pencil this in but shall have to wait and see before I can confirm the participation of Radoslaw in the event.

Hello comrade,

at this event there will be allowances for vehicles, pyros and a limited supply of support weapons paid for by the organisers for groups attending, this is great as the reenactors attending get to see a pay back with the battle being enhanced with the use of vehicles and support weapons which are very expensive to hire that individuals cannot usually afford!

I hope this is enough for you personally I prefer to see the reenactors benefitting from any extra fees accumalated!

Personally, I think good battles are too few and far enough apart for me to get choosy about which ones to attend.

Giving the profits to charity was a good idea, but I'm not that fussed about who ever had to do all the organising, (which can take a lot of work) from taking a pound or two for their trouble.. especially if it means I get to take part in a good scrap with my comrades!!

2nd Guards Rifle Division

Comrade Leytenant Andropov 'operation Tempest' sounds good but unfortunatly the 2nd Guards has it's annual AGM the week before and therefore will not be supporting this event this time though we will most likely support one of Pete Skillmans events in the future.

The 2nd Guards looks forward to working with the 146th in the field again.

Comrade Kapitan,

thank you for your reply we are looking forward to the battle at Ashby to fight by your side!

If any second guards are not attending the AGM or would like to attend you are most welcome to this event your support in attacking the fashists will be appreciated!

it has been reported that te germans have tanks and armoured personel vehicles as well as many wheeled vehicles, we are hoping for lend lease vehicles from the allies to compensate.

Loking forwards to your response.

Vehicles.
Truck - Les Hearn
STUG - Jon Philips

THE SCENARIO------------------------
The idea for the event is to have two positions that the Axis forces have to occupy.
Firstly will be the two bridges at the North end of the site that the main German forces will dig in guard and protect against Russian/Partisan forces attempts to take/ blow up with the added Bridge at the far southern end of the site that will need to be manned and guarded.
The Vehicles will be used throughout Sat/Sunday to mount timed mobile convoy carrying rations/Water/ammo and changing the guard at this outpost location.
The idea is to,
1, Deny access to the bridges and keep open and from harm, repel all attacks from enemy formations be it Army or partisans.
2, Track and destroy enemy forces in the local.
3, Mount Mobile aggressive patrols to break up enemy forxce gathering to effect an attack.
4,Capture enemy spies.

THE ENEMY-----------------------
1) Russian Army 146 Rifle Division

2) Gwardia Ludowa ("People's Guard", abbreviated GL) was a communist armed organisation in Poland, organised by the Soviets and in 1944 it was incorporated by the Armia Ludowa GL were divided onto field partisan units created for fast attacks and which returned to their homes after the action.

3) Leśni (short for Leśni ludzie, POLISH for the men from the forests) is one of the informal names applied to the Partisan groups operating in occupied Poland during ww2.

Andy,
If you could get to Swindon I could take you from there?
Barry is coming down and I am meeting him there too.
Then I drive to Pippingford.
Just a thought. :?:

I have no problem with travelling with the Fasch.
You may have to sit in the back with a blindfold on ...naturally !!

Its just an idea for you to have in your bag of options. Swindon is on the main London to Bristol line and is about 30 mins north of me. Then we travel east....naturally ! (then slightly right....and down a bit....then east again).

You would of course be driven westewards again at the end of the battle and find yourself back where you came from.... naturally ... but alive !

Comrade Andrei you may be forgiven for wearing the forbidden uniform but if this confusion of what side that you are on is in your heart then you may have to speak to our friends in the NKVD!
