Dear friends, To what extend were the subdued collar tabs on the M35 uniforms actually used? BTW, And it seems that my previous question about engineers in an infantry unit was a difficult one, there are no replies yet  Best regards, Guido

|
Subdued collar patches were the predominant wear throughout the GPW for frontline troops until late 43 with the introduction of shoulder boards. Coloured collar patches are seen throughout the Winter War, with Finland and for a few months into the GPW , when a general order was made to remove them

I would advise you to go with subdued tabs.

After April 1941 the Dress Regulation ordered subdued Collar Tags to Worn, however at least Comrade Major General Rokossovsky ( I believe) Ordered that his Command would still use Coloured Insignia, ( It is Noted in His Accounts of the GPW, a rather dry book if I remember correctly),

If your Command Complex Orders something, you Obey it, without Question!.... We are a Progressive People's Army remember, with very Strong Internal Security Organ's.

Also, and I cannot for the life of me remember where I read this, (but it was recently) but I seem to recall someone saying that some order came down (perhaps in Rokossovsky's army?) saying that NCO's would keep their colored (coloured for my cousins across the pond and her dominions across the seas) tabs as a means of recognition in the field. True? Reeenactorism? Yuri

Dear Comrades,
Thank you all for your replies, I will introduce the following rule in our group:
For everybody it will be compulsory to have atleast one tunic with subdued tabs, those that have more than 1 tunic can also have the coloured tabs, to be worn behind the lines.
